GMD ANTHONY BRAMALL AND MONCHENGLADBACH MUSICIANS VISIT WINDSOR SCHOOL. The Music Department at Windsor School received a visit from Anthony Bramall, the General music Director at Monchengladbach Theatre on Thursday 8th November. The visit followed a recent outing by 40 staff and students from Windsor School to the theatre in Monchengladbach - Rheydt to see a production of "Dreigroschenoper" by Bertold Brecht, set to the music of Kurt Weill. The students included those preparing for Advanced Level examinations in German, Music and Theatre Studies. As expected, the 'opera' lent itself very well to appreciation by a cross-curricular mix of students. The performance had received very favourable reviews and was a great hit with everyone. It was during the visit that Frau Doris Rath from the Theatre Monchengladbach asked if a visit by the GMD and some musicians would be of interest, especially since an outing to see the opera"Don Giovanni" by Mozart in Rheydt was already in the planning. Anthony Bramall arrived with four colleagues, two singers and two mucicians who spent an hour and a half with the students, telling them about Mozart's music and "Don Giovanni" in particular. To have singers and musicians from the production to perform excerpts from the opera live proved a great enrichment to the students' appreciation of the work of Mozart in general. Doubtless the theatre visit will be at least as rewarding as the last and probably more so. The Windsor School students were complimented on the level of interest shown and the visitors left with very possitive impressions of the school and its standards of music in particular. The Parents of the Winsor School students housed the majority of these pupils. The main porpose of the day was to bring all the Gifted and Talented pupils from from our respective schools together in order to develop team-building skills and to introduce the pupils from Germany ang Holland to Design and Technology. The day was divided into 3 main parts:1. Presentations by the pupils from Winsor School on there Science Masterclass projects. This was an extremely popular and successful and will be repeated at future meetings.2.The design and realisation of a bookmark in the technology dept. This involved the use of ICT and CAMS in the design and cutting processes. The pupils had to design a bookmark using IT facilities, transfer the design to a computer-aided machine to cut out and produce the article and,by way of comparison and evaluation they had to attempt to manifacture the same design by hand. 3.To give the visitors a taste of the military enviroment in which the hosts live and work, Sp Bn ARRC organised a team building and command exercise event. Organised and lead by SMI Carey and his staff. This was an ideal event to get the youngsters working together to solve problems and provided them with an insight into the way the Army trains its leaders and develops teamwork and problem solvimg-Key skills in any way of life today and something that the Army has been extremely good at.Today, the the youngsters enjoyed the day Further Information fromMr Butterworth,Winsor School, JHQ.
